JACOB WALL, Sr.
b. abt 1742, Culpepper County, Virginia
d. abt 1823 in Casey County, Kentucky
m. 1763, Culpepper County, Virginia to ANN/NANNY/NANCY

From Marilyn Wall, "Jacob Wall was an early settler of Kentucky, arriving there about 1790.  He moved to Kentucky from Culpepper County, Virginia, and was possibly born in that county about 1740.  He is mentioned in a law suit in Culpepper County on April 22, 1763, along with his wife Nanny (Ann).  He is also listed as a chain carrier in a survey made for George Hume in Culpepper County in 1755.  He and his wife, Ann, were witnesses to the Will of William Tapp in Culpepper County on June 27, 1780.  His wife also is listed as a purchaser at the estate sale of Robert Spilman on October 16, 1786.

In a copy of the Kentucky Gazette dated March 6, 1790, in a list of letters 'in this office' that are addressed to residents of the area, Jacob Wall is listed 'near Fisher's Station,' Kentucky.

The earliest Kentucky records for this Wall family are found in Mercer County, Kentucky, when some of Jacob's children married.  Later records are found in Casey County, which was created from Lincoln County in 1806.  The 1810 census shows Jacob with 1 male under 10, 1 male 10-16, 1 male over 45, 1 female under 10, 2 females 10-16, 1 female 26-45.  In 1814, Jacob Wall, Sr., is on the Casey County Tax List with 100 acres on Knoblick Creek, with one horse, total value $120.  Jacob Sr. died about 1823, Casey County, KY.  He and Ann were the parents of the following children:

1.  Francis b. 1768
2.  Ann
3.  Robert b. abt. 1770,  m. 23 Feb 1796, d. abt 1922
4.  Gabriel b. 1774
5.  Jacob Jr. b. 1778
6.  Luttle Isaac b. 17827.  Mary
8.  James b. 1786
9.  Patsy b. 1780

ROBERT WALL

b. 1770 in Culpepper County, VA
m. 23 Feb 1796 to LYDIA BROWN, Mercer County, KY (she was dau. of William Brown)
d. abt 1822, Washington County, Indiana

The following is from Marilyn Wall:  "Robert Wall received a land grant of 250 acres on Fishing Creek in Lincoln County, KY.  The 1810 census for Lincoln County shows Robert Wall as head of a household in age group 26-45, 3 males under 10, 2 males 10-16, 1 female under 10 and 1 female 26-45.

Robert Wall was in KY as early as 1791 when he was a bondsman for the marriage of his sister Ann (Nancy) to Gabriel Jones on Sept. 26, 1791.  Jacob Wall is listed as the bride's father.

Robert Wall and his family moved to Washington County, Indiana about 1815 and in 1817 he patented land in that county as follows:  Jeffersonville, Indiana Land Entries: Receipt No. 13398 Robert Wall northwest Section 31 Twp. 01 North, Range 3 East, 160 acres August 27, 1817, Also Receipt No. 13897 Northwest Sec. 31, Twp. 01 North, Range 3 east, Oct. 1, 1817, 160 acres, Washington County Commissioner's Records state "Robert Wall allowed for the tax on 160 acres of land for 1818."  Also, on August 9, 1819, "Robert Wall released from tax on 160 acres of land for 1819."

He is seen on the 1820 census with his family in Washington County, IN.  On Feb. 19, 1922, Robert Wall of Indiana sold 250 acres on Fishing Creek in Lincoln County, KY to Enoch Burdette for $250.00.  The deed was proved in Lindoln County Court, April 8, 1822, witnessed by James Daidson and William Falconberry.

A 1916 Wall Reunion was mentioned in the paper, which states that Robert Wall died in Washington County, IN, 1822.  In 1829 his widow, Lydia Wall, applied for Letters of Administration on the estate of Robert Wall, deceased.  Letters were issued on Feb. 19, 1829, and her final account was filed in Sept., 1829.  Lydia Wall and her family migrated north to Putnam County, IN, and were there when the 1830 census was taken.

In 1850, Lydia is listed in Boone County, IN, in the home of her son James.  Her age is given as 68 years.  Lydia died before the 1860 census.  Most of the Wall family in Jackson Twsp. were buried in Old Union Cemetery, but her stone and date has never been found.

Robert Wall and Lydia Brown were parents to the following children:

1.  William b. 1797, KY, m. Elizabeth Hammer

Lucinda and Robert were 2nd cousins.  Their grandmothers, Lydia Brown Wall and Tabitha Brown Huffman, were sisters.  Robert N. was dubbed "Mexican Bob"  due to his service in the Mexican War and to help identify him in the family as he had four first cousins all named Robert Wall.

The following is transcription of an affidavit given by Robert W. Wall
State of Indiana, County of Marion,Personally appeared before me…..a Notary Public in and for the County and State afore said, Robert W. Wall, a resident of said State and County, and being duly sworn, does affirm and say:
That I, Robert W. Wall, enlisted in Co. A of the First Regiment of Infantry of the Indiana National Guards on Aug. 12, 1913 at Indianapolis, Indiana, and that on or about May 1, 1916, I was enrolled in the Federal service with my Company for Mexican Border Service;
That at the time my Company was given the inoculations for small-pox, I was the last man in the line to be inoculated, and that when I went to my quarters, my arm was numb for its entire length, and that I had a high temperature, and that my temperature persisted for three or four weeks, and my arm continued to be sore.  The arm became swollen and black, with a hard area around the spot where I was inoculated, and continued to be in about the same condition until the date that I was discharged by S.C.D. and continued to be sore and to give trouble for some time thereafter.   I also state that there-after the shoulder of the arm in which the inoculations were made would get sore and ache, also across my chest.
I further state that from the date of my discharge, July 10, 1916, to the present time that my arm has continued to ache at times, and trouble me, and that the soreness and aching across my chest from that arm has continued to bother me.  I also state that ever since I was discharged from the service, I have had an uncomfortable sensation in the region of my heart, and that it seemed to me as though there was something dropping or leaking in my heart.
I further state that I have been treated by the doctor named in my application, and that during the last year I have had a much more serious condition than previously, to the extent that I have been able to do but little and that since Sept. 1931 I have not been able to do practically anything at all.

(no date listed)
“To Whom This May Concern;
I have known Robert W. Wall since 1911.            When he was enlisted in the National Guards, Aug. 12, 1913, he was in a good physical condition.  He was sering his second enlistment under the National Guards and was mustered in the regular serice for Border defence.            July 11, 1916, Robert W. Wall was discharged out of the U.S. Service.            July 1916, I gave Robert W. Wall medical attention.  He was suffering from an infected arm due to vaccination for smallpox while in the U.S. service.  Which left him with an organic heart trouble which he has never recovered.  At the present time, Robert W. Wall is unable to perform any physical duties.                                                            (This is not signed)

Aug. 16, 1932“To Whom It May Concern;            This is to certify that Mr. Robert Wall has been attended by me at odd times since September 1931.  He has a four plus wasserman, an aortitis and hypertension.            Mr. Wall has and is at present complaining of a rheumatoid arthritis.  He had very poor teeth but these have been removed since last visit to my office.
The above should disable any person.                                                Yours Respectfully,                                                            M B Paynter M.D.

Robert W. Wall expired, 1 Jan 1933, on Morgan Drive, Indianapolis, IN, due to complications from the inoculation in 1916.

Annie Crowe Wall persevered with four young children.  Jimmie would have been 13, Wayne 11, Willie 10, Mary 7.  Annie Wall's courage is the stuff legends are made of.

I do have this question. Do you have any Wall surname men in your family that have tested their Ydna. We have a group of YdNA sharing Wall men and it would be great to see if we connect with yours. Please intact me. and lets share information.
